Time flies so fast, but I don’t think it goes as fast as people keep telling me about it. It feels ‘okay’ to me, maybe because i sort of ‘notice’ every moment of it?
I’ve been tinkering with my blog setup for the past couple months. In this day an age, I wanted to know if it’s possible to deploy a sustainable and almost maintenance free WordPress site that has basically all the functionality, not just the core ones.
Vercel has been very good and reliable service that I can use for free (at least for my personal blog) so far. All thanks to mitchmac for the code that he wrote on GitHub. I managed to host my WordPress files on GitHub, my media on Cloudflare R2 and my database on Aiven for basically free for the longest time.
Of course, there are some limitation that comes with it. For example, I can only have 60 second of execution time. Small upload file size limitation (4,5mb). Basically no storage function, so I have to put all of my media on a CDN.
But with the combination with Cloudflare Caching, I think I can handle tons of traffic for this site easily. I just can’t do much of a customization like using Elementor for building a beautiful page layout and what not.
That’s why I’ve been experimenting with fly.io, trying to get the most out of $5 machine that they offered for free. I still haven’t been able to have a proper setup over there. But, I think I have something in mind that I want to try later on.
My goal is to have a reliable machine to run a fully functioning WordPress site, can handle enough traffic and perhaps make some money out of it. I want to run another blog to write something more SEO based so I can get some ads over there. Just for fun.
If I manage to pull a working WordPress site on fly.io for $5, I’m going to start selling a cheap website creation service, especially for those who need a simple Landing Page for an Ad Campaign. Or perhaps, a one-page company website. Similar to Linktree but prettier and can include tons of more information in one page.
At the end of the day, I need to have separate income because frankly speaking, my current salary is not enough to cover up my expenses. And no, I’m not living a life like I used to be. I’m not going anywhere but home unless there’s something that I absolutely need to do out there (apart from meeting my partner, of course).
So yeah, I’m sleepy. I’ll catch you guys later.
